OUR DECLARATION OF FAITH
- Our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, God manifest in the flesh as revealed to us through the Divinely inspired Old and New Testaments (e.g. 2 Tim 3:16) is the sole and absolute authority in all matters of faith and practice.
- Under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, this church declares its belief in:
- The Divine nature and sovereignty of God as Creator, Saviour and Sustainer of the universe (e.g. Gen 1-2, Jude 25, Heb 1:3).
- The Triune God: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
- The deity of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, God manifest in the flesh (e.g. Php 2:6-8, John 1:14).
- The perfect life and atoning death of our Lord Jesus Christ (e.g. 2 Cor 5:21) Who was raised from the dead and is ascended to the position of all authority and power (e.g. Acts 1:9, Eph 1:20-23).
- The convicting and regenerating work of the person of the Holy Spirit, Who causes sinful people to understand their lost condition, leading to repentance and trust in the Lord Jesus Christ as their only means of salvation (e.g. Acts 2:37-38).
- The renewing work of the indwelling Holy Spirit in the life of a believer who is growing in spiritual maturity as they are being transformed into the image of Christ (e.g. John 14-16).
- The Lord Jesus Christ is the Head and Ruler of His Church, which is the worldwide body of believers who have repented of their sin and put their trust in Him as Saviour and Lord (e.g. Eph 1:10).
- The second coming of Jesus Christ in power and glory (e.g. Acts 1:11).
- The resurrection to eternal life of those who belong to Christ (e.g. 1 Cor 15:12-58).
- The liberty and responsibility of the church to interpret, preach and administer the will of Christ in all matters of faith and practice (e.g. Eph 4:12) as governed by Jesus Christ.
- The priesthood of all believers (e.g. 1 Pet 2:9)
- The two ordinances which have been given to the Church by the explicit command of Jesus Christ, namely:
- Baptism in the Name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit (e.g. Matt 28:18-20) This church holds that the New Testament practice of baptism by immersion is symbolic of our identification with Jesus Christ in His death, burial and resurrection to newness of life and incorporation into His Church universal (e.g. Rom 6:1-4). Other than exceptional circumstances, this church conducts baptism of believers by full immersion.
- Communion (or The Lord's Supper) (e.g. Luke 22:14-20) This church holds that communion is the privilege of all who profess faith in the Risen Lord Jesus Christ. We remember the atoning sacrifice of our Lord through his death on the cross and the New Covenant sealed by His blood, declaring His death until He comes again.
AIMS AND OBJECTIVES
The church declares that its aims and objectives are:
- To proclaim the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ leading those who repent and believe in Him for salvation into membership in the Church (e.g. Matt 28:18-20).
- To proclaim the Lordship of Jesus Christ in the lives of Christians and to seek to fulfil His purpose in the life of the Church and the world beyond (e.g. Matt 28:18-20).
- To encourage people to assemble in regular worship of God (e.g. Heb 10:25).
- To instruct people of all ages in the Scriptures and its implications in daily living (e.g. 2 Tim 3:16-17).
- To support the work of the wider fellowship of Baptists through the SABU Inc., the Baptist Union of Australia Inc., and the Baptist World Alliance and to cooperate with other Christian bodies as may be determined by the church.
- To work for justice, for the needy, with care and compassion and with regard to the values of empowerment and dignity of the individual (e.g. James 2:14-20).
